Has anyone tried successfully to quite smoking?!

Question: I would like to quite smoking. Any good suggestions would be helpful. Preferably something that doesn't require money. Thanks.

Go online (or where ever you can find them) and look at pictures of what smoking does to your lungs! You won't ever want to smoke again!

3 packs a day for more then 10 years, I chewed the gum and kept my mind set on the goal.
get a reason why u want to quit than it makes it easier
I quit cold turkey. I set a date, about 6 months away, and on that day I smoked my last cigarette. That way I knew that it was coming and that I could start weaning myself off of them, slowly.
I quit after 20 years by just stopping. thats the cheapest if you're stubborn enough. depends how strong your feeling
i went to my doctor and got patches used them for 2 weeks and after that will power going on 7 years now
It's been 14 years for me. I found that lots of fruit juice and water helped flush out my system, and I snacked on sunflower seeds and celery sticks. It kept my fingers busy.
Put em' down and don't look back. WILLPOWER is free..worked for me.
yes

slowly cut down your number of ciggies per day
switch from heavier to lights

then mark a day in ur calendar.
stop by that day

however, u are only considered 'quit' when u stopped more than 6 mths.

yeah determination..
yes,if I'M OVER SOMEBODY HOUSE THAT DON'T SMOKEY,AN WITHOUT MONEY
just try and stay busy that way you dont think about smoking as much
I quit 14 years ago with the patch.
They cost money.
Unless you live in NYC
They give them away here.
Cold turkey is tough.
Do it dude
Its a silly habit.
Put the money you spend on cigs in a drawer
See how much your lighting on fire .
smokeaway my husband and i both smoked for yrs we did smokeaway and quit in a week.my dad is 60 has smoked since he was 15 he used it and stopped in 8 days. you can get it at walmart
it all comes down to will because it is highly addictive. my husband has tried 3 times and gave up because he was to weak and deep inside didn't really want to quit. he is going for it again, now he has set his date for December 1st because he wants to start a new year. new without bad habits that have bad consequences. he will start preparing in November. best wishes and congrats
Yes! I did it! I used Zyban pills and slowly the taste for nicotine left and never came back. I smoked for 13 years trying everything under the sun; and i have been smoke free going on three years.
i only smoked for a couple of yrs and quit cold turkey
yeah i quit 6 month ago after a pack a day for 10yrs. ok i had a wake up call my mom died of lung cancer, but i do think u gotta want to quit.. but it seems you do.

I told everyone i was gonna quit in a month's time.. kept reminding them, made sure everyone i know knew.. really made the last one summin special. said goodbye. then i just stopped and chewed the gum- one a day. I tell u its not the cravings that are bad, it's how often u have them.but it's a few days like that then u cool.

to get thru a craving just say to yourself EVERY time, just wait 2 mins to see if it goes away.. and it does, like an itch.
IF you want to quit - Start TODAY! My father used to smoke 4 packs of Rothmans in a day till Dec 2005! Since, January 2006, he hasn't touched it and says there's a lot of uneasiness only in the first week, after which gradually the affinity goes down and you can eventually get rid of it! Buddy, you've already made a good start by thinking about quitting! Though my dad didn't use any alternative, I suggest if you ever feel the urge to smoke, buy a pack of crunchy wafers and eat the whole pack!
I quit after 10 years of a pack a day (this was 5 years ago). I really wanted to quit. I purchased some Nicotine gum but only used it for one day so it was effectively cold turkey.

It comes down to really wanting to do it. Once you quit, stick to it. Never have another ciagarette. It is much easier not to start than to quit.

My motivation came from the disgust with myself over how the substance controlled my actions. I hated running out of cigarettes and feeling driven to go buy more. I hated having to stand outside in the winter to smoke. Now I look at all the pain smokers go through to feed their habit and I am really happy I managed to kick it.

Good luck!
well to tell you the truth you will quit smoking when you set your mind to it really. other than that, nicotine patch or gum didnt help me. I had to really want to quit in order for me to do it. good luck :)
Yes it really is quite easy if you put your mind into it. Wait a minute and I'll let you into the secret, I'll tell you as soon as I've finished this ***. In England '***' is slang for a cigarette not quite the same meaning in USA, so if you are from USA, just think what you may be smoking. Told you it was easy ! Keep that vision in your head and you will have a healthy life --- smoke free
Cold turkey. It ain't fun, but it worked. Throw away the ciggies and don't give yourself a way to gain easy access to them.
do it with your dedecation in your heart and mind.

you can not stop it at one time. you may get sick, try it slowly.

in 1box you have 20pcs.
if you smoke 2boxes a day, every day deduct 1pc daily..
with in 39 days totaly you will stop smoking with out knowing by your self. but take note dont chit your self, do it with respect to your self.

im a smoker since im on my high school age, but now im totaly stop and i hate it if i smell smoke.

goodluck
After multiple attempts and cutting down I finally quit cold turkey. It was easy because I found out I was pregnant, and while it was okay for me to slowly kill myself, poisoning a defenseless child was not. So judging from your avatar that scenario will not be working for you, but if you can think of a higher power to quit for, do so.

Now, more than ever before there are more options to aid you in your effort. Smoking is an insidious evil addiction, but you can beat it. You say you don't want to spend $, but yet you spend $ to buy cigarettes. Your health is worth the investment. Do some research on the aids that are available to you; patches, pills, hypnosis, group therapy. It will be uncomfortable for awhile, but it does not last forever.

The American Lung Association, each state usually has their own chapter, is a resource for tips on how to quit.

Good luck
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quit smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”.I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

"His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK
