Kidney stones run in my family and I've had several. I think my dad best explained it when he said think of your kidney as a sponge and the stone is like a fish hook snagging on it's way through. In other words it hurts like heck. Once it's out of your kidney it's usually a lot less painful unless it gets stuck in the ureter. The passing out after that is pretty painless depending on how big it is.
A doctor on another board I frequent told of his female patient that had both children and kidney stones. She said that kidney stones hurt worse.
After all, babies are soft and round. Kidney stones are pointy.
Worse that child birth I'm told.
