She isn't going to quit until she is ready, and unfortunately that comes to late for some.

My husband's mom was only 49 when she died from smoking (lung cancer).

Best I would tell her is that it IS your business because she is your mother and you want her around as long as possible.
Well don't break her cigs and flush them down the toilet. My mom got mad at me for doing that. lol But then again I was only about 7. I would just be honest and tell her that it's bad for her. Tell her that your risk of second hand smoke caused cancer is greater than her risk for cancer. And tell her that cancer is a terribly painful way to die. Encourage her to at least try to cut back if not quit all together. And if she wants to smoke cancer sticks, then at least you tried.
smoke all her cigs and then she can't
Start smoking yourself or pretend to.

Tell her you'll quit when she does.

If she cares about you she'll quit.
See this,its good

The only thing you can do is approach her about how you feel it is hurting her. You can explain nicely about how much you love her and you are concerned that cigarettes are killing her and that you want her to live a long life. (If you aren't married, it's a good time here to throw in how she might die before your wedding, or see her grandkids etc.. a little guilt trip;))You can also let her know that you understand it is not your business, and that it is her decision, but make her understand that it is hurting you watchign her kill herself (and if she smokes around others, it is killing them as well). My dad used to smoke, never around me or my brother, but he eventually quit because the dr had told him it was making his blood pressure worse, etc.So he finally quit after 40something years! She can too. I Hope it all works out, God bless and Good luck!
STICK A NICOTINE PATCH ON HER FOREHEAD AND TELL ER YOU WANT HER TO QUIT. FOR YOUR BENNEFIT OF HAVIN HER AROUND THAT MUCH LONGER.
if she smokes around you, try emotional blackmail ie "you know you are killing me with 2nd hand smoke" "what will i do if you get lung cancer" etc.
Pray for your Mother for help for her to stop smoking. Then as your Mother can you both pray together. Your Mother may want to stop, but she cannot on her own. No one wants to crave anything. I know, because I have been smoke free for 15 years prior to that I was a smoker, I prayed and asked God to help. And I continued smoking, but before Iknew it I had no desire for cigaretts. And I am so glad I stopped especially when I smell people who smoke they stink.
They have many different trick to try and stop smoking. They have hypnotizing, lazer, and patches or gums. They all are suppose to work differently depending on the person. Try one of those I'm sure they can help you out some. The only way she will quit though is if she wants to you cant make someone do something unless they are ready to do it!
woah!? tough..when she's ready she'll quit just always talk to him in harmony or calmly.
you prolly cant convince her, so dont even try. you can tell her you're concerned about her health and that you wish she would stop. but dont try to convince her outright, its prolly a waste of time.

you seem pretty young. if youre a minor tell her if she smokes around you shes putting a minors health at risk with the second hand smoke
Check what snacks, sweets, chocolates, she likes the most, keep it near where she normally smokes, put some in her purse and car as well.
I have tried it myself and I have stopped smoking for last 19 years.
Also remember to discourage her to have tea, coffee, soft drinks or alcohol. This increases the urge for smoking
My Dad died of lung cancer when he was only 45, sometimes it doesn't even matter how much you smoke, sometimes it can be caused by one bad cigarette.

I would remind her that she is lucky to be alive, and that life is beautiful, so why poison yourself.

Cigs burn at over 1000 degrees Centigrade, when you burn any substance at that that temp you produce PAH's. These are chemicals like arsenic and benzine, the poisons that mutate your DNA and caused unwanted cell growth (cancer).

I understand how tough it is to quit, but I cant personally understand how someone with kids can take such a big gamble with the well being of their children.

remind your mum that you have the right to be in a smoke free environment, and that it will effect your health as well.

The tobacco industry is one of the least regulated and most ruthless and unethical in the world, just the fact that these blood suckers take SO much of your money was a good enough incentive for me to give up!
My best friend from high school got her dad to stop smoking with a major guilt trip. She wrote a "fictional" story about a father who died of lung cancer when his children were teenagers. It was basically a daughter's lament about her missing father. She wrote about all the things he would miss--graduations, weddings, grandchildren, that trip to Africa he always wanted to take, etc. She didn't go overboard with the sappiness, but it had a major emotional impact. She left it in his briefcase before work in the morning, and he came home with a pack of Nicorette in the evening.

A note to the poster below me--Zyban and Wellbutrin are chemically identical. They're just marketed under two different names for different purposes.
get her on zyban! it is a little expensive (like around $120.00) but it really works!it also helps with weight loss and it helps your mood.BUT I SWEAR THIS:IT SHOULD WORK!
it has helped many people.I SHOULD SAY IT WILL WORK BUT EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. heres kida how it works:
you start taking it,you keep on smoking, and in a short time (about a week) you will see a big difference in how she craves her ciggarettes.and she wont put on weight like some people do and it helps her from being mad and upset from the withdrawel! i do promise this:she will diffinitly thank you when she does quit. and there is also wellbutrin but it dont work quit as well as zyban, but it has helped many people.i have tried both of them but the zyban is the best.everyone i know who has used it,quit!
Source(s):
just ask your doctor about it.i promise you'll hear the same thing im telling you!
good luck and God bless
Actually it is your business. If your mom smokes around you, it is causing major damage to your lungs as well. Have her purchase the patch. Get Nicorderm CQ step one. Have her try all the steps. By time step 3 comes along. She might not want to pick up another cig again. Do a daily Mom & me time also. She may gain weight after quitting and many addicts don't want to quit smoking because it helps them maintain their weight. If you go for a 30 minute walk, jog, rollar blade together daily. It will keep her mind off the cigs and more on to your relationship. After she quits treat her to a mommy daughter spa. Go get facials together and a new improved mom cut for her. Its a nice way to say I am proud of you mom.

My mom smoked ever since I could remember. My brother and I harped on her for years until she got sick of us harassing her. She quit cold turkey and its been 11 years since she last picked up a cigarette.
She is right it is none of your business. But keep trying that is what my daughter did. But until she decided to give it up nothing you say will change her mind.
everyone who smokes has a good reason, excuse.my friend didn't stop while she was pregnant, twice.she is now dead, she died last yr.,on mothersday.she will never see her daughter and son grow up.she didn't realize what she had done to herself, until it was to late.she already had lung cancer.so beg, plead, bargin with your mother.most of all let her know you love her, reguardless.
