I wonder if we can ever "get over" anything as much as it is our challenge to learn to manage it.Once a neural pathway is made, it's there. (Plus, our so called "faults" are just what makes us US and have been allowed to run amok.) Perhaps the solution you seek is in making new neural pathways, GOOD ones that serve us, not make us (and others) miserable. Like a path in the woods, if a person keeps taking it until they know it and it becomes well-marked, does it not beomce easier and easier to follow. Make it a good path, I say, one that leads to where you want to go. A personal insight about me, I will always be a little off --- Quixotic, perhaps. Now I am learning to make it work for me. As for pills -- I am cautious so I am focusing on creating a superior intake of foods just for my special needs. I realize if I eat garbage I probably won't feel good. The food at most grocery stores are dazzling in packaging and undeniabley tasty, and if you analyze what they really are, most are not really food. I have finally learned to feed my brain and protect my mind because together they control my bodily and emotional well-being. This goes for informational intake too. Temptation is everywhere, but then what is the pay-off? My ultimate happiness is at stake. So therefore, it's very important to me. Somehow I am waking up to the fact that I am fully responsible for it. Being all cynical and cool or raging and angst-filled worked for me as an art student, but now.well.not so much. ;)

Your ability to cope with Bipolar disorder depends on which type you have, how it is affecting your daily life and a few other factors. There are a variety of therapies available. Let me give you a very good resource book that has really helped me. It's "The Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide" -What you need to know, by David J. Miklowitz, Phd. You can find it at a bookstore or online.but it's a good reference book that will answer a lot of questions. In the meantime, hang in there and good luck in your recovery. Being BP is nothing to be ashamed of. There are a lot of us..like 2 Million Americans to be exact. Take care.

no, it's a chemical imbalance in the brain. However, many factors in your life can contribute to having an episode, like stress, or improper sleep, or alcohol. Environment plays a key part, ie: a strong support system.
