Question: ive already asked about 2 or 3 qs tonight but it feels like im not asking right... if i go into surgery, will i wake up if they put me under, will i freak out, will i go nuts when i wake up, and what happens when you wake up and what will i do? i noticed today that when my hubby had surgery on monday and he was laying on the couch i looked at his jaw when i noticed bruises from when he had his surgery and i looked between his legs because he was in his boxers and he had bruises around his balls and his bruises were the same color which means that they happened at the same time. why did my husband have bruises around his nuts and why am i going crazy and scared to go to the dentist. i have been scared since i was nine years old and im tired of being scared, but when im ready to face my fears, i choke

Okay, take a deep breath. Now, do you trust your dentist? Does he/she care about your health and well-being? Do they hurt you? You may have the occasional owie, but the dentist should not cause you serious pain. If they do, they are doing it wrong and you should get another dentist.
Your husband should not have bruises on his crotch from the dentist! Ask him if this is when it happened. The same color isn't positive, they are in areas that get a different amount of circulation, and that will affect them.
Most procedures do not require general anaesthetic. You can get by on gas for almost anything. There is always a chance for anaesthetic to go wrong, but it is a very small one. You should wake up after and be just fine, you will not go nuts. I have had anaesthetic several times. Waking up sucks, but you are quite sane.
Get a second opinion! There are bad dentists out there, so make sure you do not have one of them. You should be able to call most offices and ask if a certain procedure requires a general anaesthetic, and you will know by their reactions if it is legit.
It is often quite reasonable to be afraid of the dentist. I was because I had a bad one when I was growing up, and he hurt me a lot, but I have a good one now, and I don't have my stomach in knots for days before a visit, because I know he isn't going to hurt me. You can get over this! You don't have to always be afraid. If you change dentists, get one who has just graduated. They have the latest training, and dentistry is getting better practically every year. It will make a big difference! Good Luck!

You are more afraid of your fear of the dentist, than you actually are of going to the dentist. It is your fear you need to conquer, not going to the dentist. Just go to the dentist, sit and sweat and shake, and let your fear do its worse, It can't kill you. Once you have let your fear do it's worse the rest is easy. It's all in the mind and once you can let out the fear of the mind you will not be so afraid anymore. p.s, just to add, your fear probably comes from one bad experience you had at the dentist. It's a natural instinct to remember that incident and associate it with the feeling of fear you had at the time. Remember that nowadays dentists have much better equipment and usually the actual work is painless, it's just the noises and the association with fear that it puts in our minds.x
My guess is, he was abused and you should look into it before another person is abused as well. There is no way that a person should have bruising there, unless he was hit. I would call a lawyer if I were you.
I think you need to go to your doctor and ask for a referral to someone who could help you to deal with your anxiety.
I used to be afraid, take some valium before you go to dentist to chill you out. No, none of that horror stuff is going to happen. It is just a fear, face it and it will go away. I finally faced wisdom teeth being removed when they were infected to the point of having to take antibiotics and pain pills for 10 days. I could have saved a lot of pain and agony by facing it up front. Have someone you trust go in with you.
As far as the bruising around his balls.maybe when he was sedated his shorts were cutting off circulation. My husband just had a bunch of dental procedures and he is a total dentalphobe as well.his jaw was pretty sore just from having it wide open for two hours every day for three days straight. I don't know how common it is for people to actually bruise though.unless they are pulling out wisdom teeth or something like that. Maybe he is slightly anemic.that would explain easy bruising.

As far as you are concerned.tell the dentist or your doctor that you are pretty freaked and ask them if they can give you a few Valium for the procedure. This is the key ingredient to my husband having any type of procedure.and he is the type to start throwing things and really wreaking havoc on a poor unsuspecting dentist.

If you are really scared about not being able to wake up or something else really horrible happening, go to your doctor and ask him for a physical exam to rule out any obvious underlying problems that would precipitate this happening.they can do an EKG in most doctor's offices to rule out obvious cardiac issues right then.

Seriously though, just take the Valium, make sure to have someone drive you.they will give you some good pain pills if you need them, and get on with your life.
