Is it good or bad if an ovarian cyst ruptures on its own after it has been there!

Question: One doc says if the cyst ruprures the fluid from it might harm the reproductive organs and hence might cause infertility and so surgery is best. Other doc says there is no such harm and if at all it ruptues it is good because there is no need for surgery. I am having a cyst for about 5 months and I have made appointment for surgery in 2 months and now I am having lower abdominal pain which might mean cyst rupture? I don't know what to think? PLease advice.

My daughter had the same problem. They would go in and remove them and the cyst would return. She was in constant pain and when one would rupture, the pain would be unbearable. She suffered for a much longer time than I would have put up with it.

Finally they removed one ovary and scraped everything. She was told to have a child immediately or she would never have one. She got pregnant and had a healthy baby. Long story short, the cysts kept returning. Her life was not worth living and she was living on pain pills.

They didn't want to do a hysterectomy because she was 32 years old. They just kept going in and removing them when the pain was bad. FINALLY I went to the doctor and raised hell with him. We ended up having his female partner do the hysterectomy. He just couldn't do it. He didn't care how she felt, just how old she was. She had everything removed. She said (afterwards) she didn't realize how terrible she hurt until the surgery. She is in great health now, no more pain. She takes a pill daily for menopause.

As a medical sonographer, I have not heard of rupturing cysts causing infertility. But that does not mean it is not a risk. Please look at the links, I have supplied at the bottom of this, to see what the EXPERTS say. You have to do research on this one, for your physical and mental health. Take care.

Ovarian cysts can rupture (usually without ill effects), they rarely cause symptoms. They are benign and have no real medical consequence. http://www.webmd.com/content/article/104/107478.htm

Some functional ovarian cysts can twist or rupture and bleed. Symptoms include:

Sudden severe pain, often with nausea and vomiting (possible sign of a twisted cyst).
Pain immediately after intercourse (possible sign of a ruptured cyst).
If you have symptoms that suggest a twisted or ruptured ovarian cyst, call your health professional immediately. Some ruptured cysts bleed enough that treatment is necessary to prevent heavy blood loss. http://www.peacehealth.org/kbase/topic/major/hw181644/descrip.htm
