What does Bi mean in the mental illness Bi-Polar?!

Question:
Answers:
What used to be described as manic-depression is really a "bi" split in a person,characterized by "manic" highs,and crashing, low "depression"

Other Answers:
Bi means two. It's implying a shift between two moods, highs and lows.
Bi-Polar = two levels of moods
Bi-Polar means that your emotions experience both (bi means two or both) extremes (poles means opposite sides or extremes). A bi-polar individual experiences depression as well as very enthused hyperness.
Bi- is a standard for two..

Polar- is the different ends of a spectrum.

bi-polar is like two opposite sides. Manic-depressive.
Bipolarity is not necessarily a mental illness. The "bi-" part signifies two, or the two different moods that they person will swing between. =)
bi=2
polar=extreme
(north pole= extreme north, south pole=extreme south)
bipolar=when a person's mood shift from one extreme to the next
OK all these are true but did it send you swinging from one poll to the other like this one will.

Bi stands for, "bite me", the answer to give your psychiatrist when after 12 different meds in 2 months lands you in the emergency room on a 5150.

Bi stands for "bite me", What the man screamed for 12 hours in the room next to you in the psych ward at the hospital you were being held against your will.

Bi stands for "bite me" What you yelled back every 4 hours when your sedation wore off to the man in the next room in the hospital you were being held against you will.

Bi stands for "bite me" What the Nurses yelled at you both every 4 hours at the man in the next room at the hospital you were being held against your will.

Bi stands for "bite me" With all the screaming the schitzoid across the hall thought the IV was a snake and going to bite her, every 4 hours when the nurses yelled at me and the man in the room next to mine at the hospital where I was being held against my will.

Howd the you change to I. OK, OK this is true too. Well based on truth or truth as it is known by us BI's, Bi-Polars, Well Bi-Sexuals too.
What is Truth these days anyway. Does anyone realy know?
Hum leta contemplate it after our next electro shock treatment.
Bipolar literally means of two poles (think the poles of the Earth or of a magnet). It gives a distorted view of Bipolar Illness, in that it suggests you are either at one side of the middle or are in the middle. This would tend to exclude mixed episodes, where you experience intense symptoms from both poles (manic and depressive), though these episodes do exist.

I prefer the term Bipolar Spectrum Disorder.
Bi means two just as it does in everything else. I'd go on to answer the rest of it like every one else, but you didn't ask for that definition so you must know the meaning of Polar already.
