As I'm starting medical school next year, I found your question interesting. I've been told by countless people in the medical and non medical field that if you are going into medicine for the money, then be a lawyer. You have only four years of school and then get paid bank without any of the malpractice insurance. So basically people going into medicine for money are either too stupid to know that there are easier careers that make more or they are doing it for other reasons as well.
I do believe that few people would shell out thousands of dollars for college, thousands more for medical school (I have to pay 40,000 per year, just for tuition) and then make peanuts for 3-5 years during residency, it they were not going to be reimbursed for it. Not to mention that it is another seven years minumum after college of your life. Sure the money is an incentive, but you have to either love the human body or love improving the health of others.

I don't know the actual percentage.
But I can't imagine someone would spend so much money on undergrad and then grad school as well as take all those classes and successfully pass them just for the money.

im going to be a doctor, and ill tell you, at least I am doing it because i care. i dotn care abotu the money, i care abotu the people im going to help. if your a doctor for the money you eventually find your not happy with your profession.. just like any job. you have to have some basis liking it or it jsut gets old.
I think most of them do it because they care or because theyre interested in it. Its not easy becoming a doc so noone would just do it for money. Maybe some of them do but I doubt it that most of them do that for money.
