completely occluded artery on left side how dangerous is that?!

Question:
Answers:
The coronary arteries surround the heart to supply the heart muscle with the fresh blood nourishment it needs to do its work of pumping blood throughout the rest of the body. Just like other organs, the heart needs a constant supply of oxygenated blood to feed itself. Coronary Artery Disease is an occlusion (obstruction) of the coronary (heart) arteries resulting from atherosclerosis (arteriosclerosis). When the body goes into more strenuous activity, the heart has to work harder to supply the body's demands for fresh, oxygen-rich blood.

An ischemic heart reacts by giving off a sensation of pain. We call this pain angina, or, more technically, angina pectoris. When the blockage of an artery is complete, for example, when an occluded artery is blocked by a thrombus (blood clot), the result is a heart attack. The heart tissue supplied by that coronary artery begins to die, and some of the heart muscle may be permanently damaged, or, in very severe cases, may result in death of the patient.

On a personal note - My father had a triple heart by-pass last year as he had 3 blocked ones, he has been told that he can and should now lead a normal life and that his heart will not be the reason he dies as its beating now as though he was 20 years younger.

you can look for "stroke" and you'll find a lot of sites
Since you asked this question in "Heart Disease" I'm assuming you are talking about a coronary (heart) artery and that this is a recent occurence. The heart has two main arteries, the left coronary artery and the right coronary artery. In general, the left coronary artery supplies the largest amount of heart tissue. Unless the person you are talking about has a bypass graft to the left coronary system (this would have been a major open heart surgery in the past) a completely occluded left coronary artery is extremely serious (immediately life threatening) I'm assuming the patient is hospitalized at this point.
