I once heard eating a large spoon full of peanut butter helps because it sticks to the top of your mouth and changes your breathing pattern.

Don't know if that's true.

press your thumb up against the roof of your mouth
A teaspoon of sugar. We use this method a the bar I work at. Most of the time it works. A sugar packet or two will work also. This actaully causes a physical reaction in the body and will stop the hiccups. Obviously, this method is not approved for the people with diabetes.

Life experience
I discovered this in an episode of the Animaniacs, when one of the godfeathers got hiccups. They did the water method and the God Pidgeon (Which seemed to speak fake italian) spooked the pidgeon with the hiccups and cured him of it.

But the one method I found that works is also from the episode. Take a deep breath, swallow it, and hold it for as long as you can. Now in the cartoon, the pideon that says this actually said, "Hold it until I telly ou to stop." The he and another pidgeon get into a fight while the hiccup victim keeps holding his breath, turning red and purple until he sort of exploded. Ignoring the explosion part, it actually works sometimes.
Breathe in deeply, swallow the breath, and hold it for about a minute or two, as long as you can.
There are many methods, different ones work for different people.

1) Have someone startle/scare you.
2) Swallow a tablespoon of sugar.
3) Drink water from the opposite lip of a cup (with the opening under your chin).
4) Breathe into a paper bag (like what you do for hyperventilation).
this might sound a little weird but it works for me.

get a full cup of water.. warm or cold.. however you like it..now this is where it gets weird.. and mabe confusing.. but i'll do my best to explain.. bend over like you are trying to touch your toes.. and and start drinking the water.. usually when you drink a cup of water standing up the top of the cup touching your nose inbetween your eyes.. but drinking it upside down.. the top of the cup should be under your chin.. and dont bend over too much because the water might go up your nose.. take small gulps at a time.. do it until you drink it all.. then stand up straight and see if it goes away..

or another way to explain it is.. instead of putting your lips to the edge of the cup closest to you (how you normally drink from a cup).. you put it on the side farthest away from you (opposite of usually put your mouth to drink).. and bend over slowing til you could get the water to reach your mouth and start taking small gulps..

i hope this helps.. cuz it works for me..!
