Do anti-depressants like Lexapro cause weight gain? if so, what is the average?!

Question:

If you are still in the research phase for an anti-depressant..research very carefully and completely.all over the internet! The doctors mean well, however, they can only give you the information provided to them. There are alot of websites out there about these medications. The reason I know this is because I am another person searching for help dealing with the effects of Lexapro and withdrawal from Lexapro. Each person is different and will react differently. I now need to loose about 40 pounds after being on Lexapro for 2 1/2 yrs. My doctor denies that Lexapro has caused this weight gain.I have researched and discovered that there are many of us battling this weight gain. This is only my experience and as I said.everyone is different. Stay in touch with your physician and monitor yourself for progress, weight gain, and overall feeling of well-being. Do not "just take the pills" until you are ready to stop. Many people do not need to be on medications for long periods of time. Establish a good relationship with your health care provider and know what your line of treatment will be..research and ask questions!

Other Answers:
It depends on the individual, however I've known many people on Lexapro and other anti-depressants of the same family who did not gain weight. Actually if they are working quite the opposite could happen. If you feel better about yourself then you take more notice and will want to be healthier, kind of like a chain reaction. This is not Medical Advice just my opinion.
