When I feel one coming on, I take a big breath, and talk to myself...knowing that you are having one is the hardest part. Next thing to do is go for a nice long walk. Most people having an anxiety attack have the feeling of wanting to run, so why not walk it off.
Practice breathing techniques that you can use when having an attack. Breath in through your nose slowly for a count of five, hold it for two, the breath out slowly through your mouth for a count of seven.

Don't give in to the panic - tell yourself that it's an attack and will pass if you stay calm.
angelhimm is right, you need to breathe deeply. Talking helps control your breathing, because you cannot talk if you don't take a breath.

If you can notice an early warning sign and get yourself to a place of safety, that's helpful.

Also walking and moving is rhythmic and helps you regain control.

My sister suffered a head injury and has been off all medication for over two years. When in a meeting, she excuses herself, if she has to and walks and breathes until she is ready to continue the meeting. If the items have to be tabled, or delegated, she does.

Also - DIET - she eats no meat or dairy. She drinks no caffeine. She eats lots of soy and sweet potatoes and makes sure she always has a LARABAR or some healthy, tasty boost if she feels hungry.

She exercises daily.

I find that if I can remind myself that moods pass and that I have choices, it gives me a chance to get to a safe place mentally and physically.
If you have panic attacks, it is a medical condition. It is a chemical imbalance in your brain. I think you know that. It is the same as being a Type I Diabetic and taking insulin to stay alive. It is okay to need medication. It is there for you. It is nothing to be ashamed of. And if it is not you who has these attacks than what I am saying is for those who do.

note- some posters have mentioned ways to get over it or past it? This would work with a rush of adrenaline or fear that is normal. True Panick Attacks take control of your life.
PRAY. You can ask God to take the attacks away and to give you peace of mind,but you have to beleive in him and trust him as you would a pill.
take deep breaths and listen to them, focus on every breathyou take, let it take over, and listen to your heart beat, the breathing will calm it down. Also, try to put yourself ahead in time, i mean try to imagine yourself in tomorrow already, or a week from now, that state of mind will actually help you see thinsg from a different angle.. Just keep your faith, find a happy place, and all the best!
