Well, when the top and bottom are not lining up straight and you cannot bite down right to chew--that's a good indication. Extreme discomfort.heck PAIN, is another. Grinding your teeth at night, clicking in your jaw, etc. is an indication of Temporal Mandibular Joint Disorder.

Ask your dentist to check to see if your teeth line up correctly. Does your jaw hurt? Do you get frequent headaches? Clicking in your jaw? You might have TMJ.
UM, see a dentist or and orthodotist that specializes in jaw disorders. TMJ is not when your jaw is out of line-its when your jaw pops adn locks while chewing or can be caused by excessive teeth grinding, however if you have a sore jaw and hear it popping you may have that too. Chances are braces will clear it all up, but consult with an orthodontist instead of these yahoo users that dont know there head from their behind.
