its an active ingredient used to treat acnes. be sure to heck the label. 5% solutions are the best but it takes longer for acnes to disappear compared to the 10% solutions although it may not dry your skin that much. If you opt for 10% solutions be sure to have a moisturizer to balance it all because it may cause dry skin.

Used as local treatment in acne. It is a powerful oxidizing agent and can cause irritation. If the skin is sensitive, start with 2.5 % and increrse it if tolerated. If it does not respond start with local antibiotic.
