Certified Nurse Assistants or Nurses!?!

Question: What exactly do CNA do that work in a nursing home? And also what do they do during the third shift? It seema to me everyone would be sleeping and not too much to do. You answers would really help. Thank You.
Answers:
CNA's handle personal care for patients. Bathing,Feeding, cleaning up any accidents, taking them to the toilet(if they can't themselves), dressing, range of motion exercises(for those that need it), taking temperatures, blood pressures, emptying cathetor bags,.. and the list goes on and on.

On the 3rd shift we would have to do rounds every 2 hours and make sure noone was soiled. If they were, you had to change them. Take temperatures of those that needed it, empty cath bags, turn the people that couldn't turn themselves (so they did not get bedsores) When you have up to 18 patients a night, it is not easy. We also had to get 2 up and ready each morning.Sometimes pass out food trays and help feed. Plus charting intake(fluids) and outputs(urine)

Hope that helps.

You'd THINK everyone would be sleeping, but they're not. My Mom used to work as a CNA but now she's doing Transcription for a sleep doctor. In a nursing home CNA's have to do the crap jobs like cleaning up the patients and such. mainly helping out the nurse if they need anything.
they help the elderly and feed some, in third shift they are there to keep everything running smoothly and to help anyoone that needs it.
