My daughter was the same way -- the ultrasound showed hydronephrosis. Hydronephrosis is the swelling of the kidney(s) when urine collects inside and is totally or partially blocked from flowing out. The doctors thought there was some sort of obstruction that was causing the distention in the kidneys, so they decided to induce the delivery 10 days early. After additional scans when she was born, the doctors decided that everything was normal -- her kidneys were just made a little differently than most -- her kidneys held more fluid than normal. She was followed very closely for the next few years during vital organ growth and development.and everything turned out okay.

Here's a children's hospital website to help you learn more about fetal hydronephrosis:

I am completely amazed by this on youqa answers. I have yet to find ONE mom, just ONE, that can spell the word P-R-E-G-N-A-N-T. Look around, it's a growing trend. Illiterate moms on the rise! At least use the spell checker.
We find this pretty frequently in the ob/gyn practice that I work at. We deal with a lot of high risk pregnancies so we perform a lot of sonograms. The sono tech was just mentioning the other day how common it seems to be. I have not seen a case yet (in 4 years) that has turned into anything serious. I would try not to worry about it and take things a day at a time. If you have questions ask your doc that's why they are there.
