dinoticulitus is how you pronounce it, I think. But its where you get little pores in your colon and everytime you eat things with seeds or kernels and things like that they'll get stucked in the pores. They usually get infected and inflamed and its a really painful and actually life-threatening condition. Usually associated with the elderly.
Diverticulitis is inflammation of the intestines. The inflammation occurs when the wall of the intestine becomes weakened and allows fecal matter and bacteria to get stuck. This creates pockets in the wall of the intestine which can very easily turn into infection. Add all of this to the normal function of the intestines which is trying to move things through and you end up with more blockage. My grandmother suffered with it for years and it can be very painful when it flares up. She had to learn to restrict some of the things that she ate, such as lettuce, nuts, and anything hard. At the times of flare-up she would have to take antibiotics to help clear the infection, and later on she had surgery to remove the diseased part of her intestine. I feel for anyone suffering from this, it sounds very painful.
