I have peripheral neuropathy in my feet. Can anyone recommend a treatment. My do!

Question: I have taken neurontin and now take Lyrica for a short time. Are drugs the only thing a doctor can recommend? This condition ruins my life.
Answers:
I had it in my feet and stoped taking a med that i was on. Also I soaked my feet in hot water in a foot massager with about a 4th cup of Epsom salt. I havn't had it since I stoped the meds. As far as the Epsom salt? It might have been mentally brought on though it seems to help.I stoped taking Neurontin

Unfortunately, those are about the only meds that we can offer. As far as medical science knows now, neuropathy (painful or not), occurs after blood sugar has been high for a long time. The effect (or damage) is usually not reversible.

That doesn't mean that the symptoms are not treatable. I've had fairly good luck with Lyrica for patients with neuopathic pain.

On the idea of soaking. Please DON'T! Soaking can soften the skin and allow the forming of small cracks/openings. Unless you use sterile water, bacteria can then enter the foot and cause cellulitis. I've seen patients lose part of their foot when the infection entered the bone.

My hubby has diabetic neuropathy and I have neuropathy in my feet also. We are both being treated (by two different M.D.'s) with Neurontin. I had to have my dosage adjusted by the doc, as I felt overly tired in the a.m. Now, with a capsule at dinner and one at bedtime, I have had relief. Do yourself a favor and get a second opinion. Hope you feel better soon.
