I think they just collapse. I have fainted before and i woke up on my side. so i guess its just how u stand or sit. your body just becomes limp and you just collapse

As one who has fainted several times i can tell you there is no general direction of falling, it all depends which way you happen to be leaning at the time.
if you are leaning slightly more forward than backward(slouching for example) then you will fall forward. whereas it is perfectly possible to fall to the left or right, forward or backward.
it all comes down to weight distribution.
