4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Detrusitol can have side effects
Due to the pharmocological effect of the medicine, Detrusitol may cause dry mouth, heart burn and dry eyes. The most common side effect associated with Detrusitol is dry mouth, which may occur in 35% of patients. If you find any of the following side effects troublesome please inform your doctor, who may lower the dose for you. If severe or persistent reactions occur inform your doctor as soon as possible.

Common side effects >1% and <10% (less than 1 per 10 but more than 1 per 100 patients):

constipation, abdominal pain, heart burn (stomach discomfort following meals)
dizziness, headache
decreased tear production (dry irritable eyes)
fatigue
drowsiness
altered sensation - pins and needles
blurred vision
chest pain
flatulence, vomiting
nervousness
dry skin
Uncommon side effects >0.1% to < 1% (less than 1 per 100 but more than 1 per 1000 patients):

swollen ankles
allergic reactions
inability to empty the bladder
confusion.
Rare side effects >0.01% to<0.1% (less than 1 per 1000 but more than 1 per 10,000 patients):

increased heart activity
hallucinations
Other side effects which have been reported with the use of medicines with the same active substance, tolterodine, are:

severe allergic reactions (very rare)
heart failure (very rare)
Palpitations and irregular heartbeat (rare) are known side effects of this type of drug.

Should these occur or, you experience increased difficulty in urination, or confusion, then the medication should be stopped and you should seek immediate medical attention.
