Migraine is a genetic neurological disease that there is NO cure for. However, it can be managed by addressing preventive treatment, trigger management, abortive treatment, and general pain management.

If you are having a number of Migraines each month you and your doctor can consider using a prescription preventive or a combination of preventatives. There are hundreds of them and finding the right one is a lot of trial and error.

There are non-prescription preventatives too. 300mg of Co enzyme Q-10 a day has been shown to a good preventative. There is also Buttebur, Feverfew, Magnesium and Vitamin B12.

Avoiding potential Migraine triggers such as MSG, Aspartame, Chocolate, Certain Alcohols, aged cheese, fresh baked breads, etc. are a good idea.

Treating and aborting a Migraine as early as possible is key. There are Migraine specific medications that can help. Triptans, such as Imitrex, Amerge, and Frova and Ergotamines such as Migranal and DHE45 are some of them. They come in a variety of delivery systems; tablets that you swallow, or a pill that dissolves under your tongue, nasal sprays or self-injections.

There is also one over-the-counter medicine that has been proven effective for treating a Migraine. It's called "GelStat" and it is a liquid that you squirt under your tounge. It contains feverfew to help relieve the pain and ginger to help with nausea.

If the pain of a Migraine cannot be controlled through the previous methods then analgesic both narcotic and non narcotic may be needed. Some of these medications are Acetameniphin, Midrin, Fiorcet, Hydrocodone, NSAID's, and Demerol.

the problem with getting rid of migraines is that they can be triggered differently from person to person. sometimes they are triggered by stress, many times by food, or drinks. i've know a few people that have had success by keeping a food diary, and noting when in that diary they've had a migraine. often times you'll see a connection between certain foods, and migraines. also be sure to stay well hydrated. dehydration is a common trigger among migrain sufferers.

a friend of mine found 1 method that helps with temp. relief during a migraine. he takes a migraine medicine, and fills up the tub with warm water. then lays in the tub with just his face exposed. the warm/hot water surrounding the head relieves some of the pressure while until the medicine kicks in. i recommend doing this with supervision, so you don't drown.

Believe it or not Caffeine has been proved to help fight migraines. It helps the blood flow to the brain in a way that can stop it if taken when the symptoms start. Try a strong cup of coffee when symptoms start and see if it helps.
Nothing cures them, very hard to treat, I've been trying for years. But first I will not let them ruin my day and I work through them. A strong pain killer works best for me. But I just lay down thru the "aura" than get up and do what I have to do. (They can get less severe as the years go by, mine have) I hope yours do to
