Hmm from a personal experience of living with someone with substance abuse this is what i've observed:
poor communication skills, obsessive thoughts of getting high, depression which is a prob all in itself, stealing, mistrust, it goes on and on. Mood swings,..

in bad enough cases a complete lack of concern for other beings, once someone is consumed by addiction its all they can see, feel, think about or care about and they will do anything to anyone to get it. quite frankly they lose their humanity, they become animals who need to feed their addiction and nothing more, thats why the people involved with them suffer so much, they still try to see them as the person they once were but that person just isn't there anymore, something else has moved in to the shell that used to house that person.
