Question: The doctor told me that it usually takes 6-12 months for the swelling to go down. Also, how long before it's fully cured? Has anyone out there had the same type of surgery?

Your surgeon knows best. I suggest that you follow your discharge plan of care, to maximize healing. Stay on a low salt diet to prevent edema (swelling). Do the physical therapy outlined on the physicans discharge sheet (when allowed). Keep the follow up appointments. Communicate questions and concerns to the staff at the surgeons office phone number.
