I heard that Maine is trying something like universal healthcare, it is experimental and new, but you might be able to find some information on a program called Dirigo.

what is Heath.

and if it is health that you are talikng about ,it is only a very small portion of humanity that enjoys that in only the richer countries, certainly not in any of the 3rd world countries
Good luck---I have been in Emergency Medicane for 16 yrs. and I don't think it will ever change. The insurance companies and phymactical companies control which way the vote for health care will go.
It has already started. Massachusetts now has well. state health program going
The Clinton Co presidents (Bill and Hill) Screwed up our Health Care for most working class people. The reason is Health care should be either 100 percent private sector or 100 percent a social system. By moving a social system supported by a private system has caused the health care costs to skyrocket.
Since Bill and Hillary Clinton had such contempt for the mom and pop business, self employed and individuals in this country, they had little problems supporting a bi- social system that increased costs to the smaller business and individuals while decreasing costs to the multi National corporations.
universal health care is not the answer. the problem is that americans refuse to take personal responsibility. as a med student, i see people come in for a simple cold, because it's cheaper to get prescription meds; i can only imagine how much worse it would be if that 'privilege' were available to everybody. in the countries where socialized medicine appears to work, people also have very different mentalities about their own health (e.g., they don't binge at mcdonald's then sue the restaurant for getting fat). bringing about social change should be the priority. and the only way i see doing that is going to a system where patients pay completely out of their own pockets, with very minimal subsidizing (whether insurance or government).
