i had lower wisdom teeth removed?!

Question: the one had a cyst under it it was removed also date of removal was 5-23-2006 it did not swell until a day later now the swelling move down that side of my neck the cyst was on
Answers:
This is normal. Having teeth removed, especially if there is a cyst involved. is considered surgery. Depending on the level of complication, it could even be considered major surgery. Swelling is ALWAYS worse 1 - 2 days after the procedure is done. Just refrain from smoking, drinking out of a straw, or anything else that requires a sucking action. Also. if you are rinsing with a slat wter solution, make sure it is ONLY 1tsp per full glass of water. Anything more will hamper with the healing process. The things to watch for are. severe pain (ie 8 - 10 on a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being the worst), a red line going from the area of the extraction down your neck (it would look like someone took a red marker and drew on your skin), or a really bad taste (not like the tase of blood that I'm sure you are experiencing now, but more of a rotting taste) and severe oozing (not like the little bit I'm sure you are seeing now, but enough that you feel like you are swallowing all the time). If ANY of these things happen, call your dentist IMMEDIATELY. Everyone tolerates pain and surgery differently, but these three things are the standard "something is really wrong" markers.

this is not a question?
Please say that you are getting medical treatment for this. You probably should be on antibiotics. Please see your dentist or a doctor right away.
I had 1 wisdom tooth pulled the others were surgically removed. I don't remember any swelling, just lots of bleeding for about a day. I would think swelling is normal, but it's been a few days and it should have gone down by now. Call your surgeon and see if he/she is concerned about it. That's the only way to be sure.
Sounds like a possible infection. Take your temperature and call your dentist imediately. If he does not seem to take you seriuosly go to his office.

It's amazing, I saw a today a patient of mine on whom I removed some third molars. He was complaining of excessive swelling.

Third molar extractions can result in a variety of post-operative features. Keep this in mind. Also keep in mind that no two people react exactly the same to surgery.

Swelling is common, and depending on the amount of drilling the surgeon (be it your dentist or oral surgeon) did, the cleanliness of the incision and amount of damage to the periostium, swelling can be mild to severe.

Often, I tell patients that swelling increases for about three days post-operatively. Beyond that, it should begin decreasing. Increased swelling beyond that point warants a trip back to the treating doctor. Infections typically don't develop until 5 days or so after the procedure. Hematomas, however, can develop much sooner, and require follow-up.

Regardless, you should not use any ice. At this point, warm compresses to your face 3x/day are highly appropriate. Whether normal post-op swelling or a hematoma, heat will help it dissipate. If it is by some chance infection, heat will also help your body fight it. Warm saltwater rinses are also beneficial to keep the surgical sites as clean as possible.

For my patient today, I prescribed antibiotics.not because I thought he had an infection or was even going to get one, but because the father appeared to be very concerned and had this look on his face that said, "I am going to blame you if he gets an infection".

Don't worry, you are only 3 days post-op, and it is pefectly normal for swelling to be at its maximum.
