bye
Sorry to say it can go on for several years. And BTW, night sweats can be caused by allergies as well as menopause.

If you're getting the "hot flashes", that's a better signal. They taper off in a year or so, but will occasionally come back to visit.

It's the grumpy like-PMS thing that bothers me most, though, because you don't recognize that you're being that way until you've already lost your patience.
i dont know a lot about it but i do know it can go on for years my mum started when she was 38 and she,s only just finished and shes now 57 so...but go to the doctor if you cant cope with the symptons like night sweats, mood swings, hot flushes
I didn't know much about this until my wife started. I wish I could tell you that things will be OK, but chances are you are in for some rough times ahead. My wife is 48, she started about 3 years ago. The hot flashes are horrible, but she did get some relief from a multi vitamin and mineral packet by Prescriptive Solutions. The sell them at Walgreens if you have that store available? The other thing is she may go 5 or 6 months without a period, long enough for her to think that she is done, and bam, they hit again, and always at the worst time. The last one came the day before we planned a romantic weekend in a hotel, hot tub in the room and all. Disappointed is an understatement. All I can say is good luck, be tough, and hopefully you will get through it without as many problems as others have. Try this quote when you feel really bad. "from the moment we are born, from the cradle to the hearse, nothing is ever so bad, that it couldn't be worse."
