antibiotic therapy?!

Question: imipenem in infectious diseases
Answers:
An excellent broad spectrum (meaning it kills a wide variety of bacteria) antibiotic given IV in serious infections. It is a derivative (a distant cousin) of penicillin. It covers many hard to kill bacteria, including notoriously resistant psudomonas. List of side effects:

COMMON
Cardiovascular: Thrombophlebitis
Dermatologic: Injection site pain
Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting

SERIOUS
Immunologic: Anaphylaxis (rare)
Neurologic: Seizures (with higher doses and/or renal impairment).

A very good drug, if you need strong antibiotics.
