Why do you think Evolution/God made the hymen in women?!

Question: Just wondering.=)
Answers:
It protects the vagina through childhood and helps ensure that when a girl reaches childbearing age her reproductive system is still healthy and fully functional.

Also, the vagina is particularly prone to infection as it is a warm, moist environment that is fairly likely to be exposed to outside pathogens and toxins, and the hymen protects it until it is needed, making it that much less likely that you will die of infection. In modern times, where people generally live at least into their 60s, and often even into their 80s and 90s, the extra bit of protection for the first 16 or so years may not seem significant. But when the average life expectancy was only 30-40 years, the hymen might be intact for half a woman's life, which is a significant time to be protected from vaginal infection.

The theory about knowing a woman is a virgin seems unlikely, however I do want to point out that adaptations that make an individual more sexually attractive do arise though sexual selection. This is where the peacock's tail comes from, and is also the primary selective force that still acts on humans. However, I think it unlikely that this accounts for the existence of the hymen.

God created EVERYTHING for a reason. Back in the day it was a sign that a girl was a virgin. research has shown that it can break by horseback riding. There is always an explanation for God's creations, sometimes we just can't explain it.
no idea
Why did your mother name you Saddam? INSANE
For the girls to break it one day. simple
That's actually a good question. maybe it's like your appendix (it no longer serves any real purpose, but did at one time)

I've never thought about that one though. i'll have to look into it and see if I can find anything.
Good question. Another interesting question would be why so many societies have placed so much value on the virgin. I think these questions go hand in hand. I would like to research if other animals also have a hymen and how virginity is viewed in animal culture. I bet that there is a deep seated thing in our DNA that makes the virgin important as a first time 'uncorrupted' mother. I bet that other male animals have a way of checking or sensing if a female still has an intact hymen.
The hymen was not created by anything except incomplete development as a fetus. That is why the thickness and intactness varies from woman to woman. Some women can not menstrate properly because their hymen completely covers the vaginal opening. Some women have a lot of pain during their first time and others don't have any.
