Not sure if you are wanting it straight, or to control frizz..I personally love my Remington wet 2 straight hair staightener. I have wavy long hair and thick so when it's wet it doesn't work as well for me to straighten it as it does for me when my hair is dry (although it works great for my sister if her hair is wet or dry).. And to control any frizz I like Zero Frizz Hair Serum.Both items sold at your local WalMart.

medium hair? do u mean by shoulder length? well, i don't know how long your hair is but if u want to make your hair grow faster then get your hair trimmed, and do that every 3 months to get the hair length that u wanted. wavy hair? there is a way to do that but i think the only way to that is braiding.
i am a hair stylist with medium length wavy hair, and my recommendation is to get long layers, apply a very light smoothing serum like super skinny serum from paul mitchell.
this stuff is great to straighten hair with too. also use a moisturizing shampoo and condtioner. and don"t go overboard with hair product, less is more...
