Does anyone know how to use a rolled up newspaper to relieve ear pain/pressure?!

Question: When i was younger I would get swimmers ear every summer from the many many hours spent in the pool. A friend of the family would roll up a newspaper and stick one end into my ear, then light it on fire. A few minutes later my ear would "pop" and the earache would be gone. Does anyone know how exactly the newspaper should be rolled?
Answers:
Quite tightly and small enough to sit just above the ear canal.

Other Answers:
Roll up the whole news paper and hit on your head near the ear
No, don't do that, what the person was doing was candeling your ear, and you should go to the health food store and buy a real ear candle. They are like rolled up paper, but dipped in wax.
no but you can try this:

1. pinch your nose
2. blow air into your nostrils like your blowing your nose. (do this as your pinching your nose.) it should make your ears pop. I use this on a airplane flight.
The name of the ear cones dipped in wax are called Indian smudge cones. But if you use them to much your ears will produce more wax to compensate. Another good idea with them is to cut a small slit in a paper plate and stuck the cones through the plate so when you light it you protect your head.
Paper roll should not hurt the diaphragm, instead use cotton rolled sticks - homemade or purchase.
