My girlfriend's mom had/has a bad case of what the doctors thought was cellulitis. they put her on one kind of antibiotics and she didn't respond, so they switched to another antibiotic and the affected area has been getting better. There may be topical creams that can help too. you should see a doctor anyways because i've seen how bad it can get.

Antibiotics is the answer, but if the patient is diabetic, they have to get their blood sugar under control, if they do and the cellulitis keeps getting worse an xray of the affected extremity may be warranted. Elevate and Ice for pain relief.
One way only ANTIBIOTICS! Remember the skin is the largest organ in the whole body. Yes it is a organ! It protects the rest of the body. If you had a kidney infection or lung infection you would treat it with antibiotics you need to treat cellulitis as well. If it continues to spread you will put yourself at risk of developing other infection such a sepsis. A deadly blood infection due the skins inability to protect against invading bacteria. This is what happens to burn victims as well.
