Question:
Answers:
Cowlick is British in origin and refers to a tuft of hair that refuses to lie flat. It likely comes from a comparison with the projecting ridge of hairs on a cow’s hide, which have been licked into that shape by the animal. The word was first recorded in 1598.

I don't know where the term originated, but it does look like a cow licked the back of your head! So I guess I can understand it.
In Turkey, we use this term to indicate that the person's hair looks extremely wet.
i guess if a cow licked your hair in an upward motion it would stick up. Maybe that is how.
