How do we convince these teenagers, that they can get hurt on line?!

Question:

For as much bad that can be found on the internet, there is as much, if not more, good. The internet gives our teenagers access to all sorts of information and to other teens across the world. We just have to educate our teenagers of the dangers. Teach them how to recognize and avoid predators. Though all teens and children are curious and can come across all sorts of things on the internet, make sure they learn about things from you first. There are browsers that let parent set strict settings also. Just talk with your kids, pay attention to what they are learning. Ask them questions and let them ask you questions. If the parents are not knowledgeable about computers or the internet, take classes. They often have cheap or even free ones at your local library. Read up on your internet browser at home so you can set the security settings. If your kids are chatting online, ask them if you can sit and hang with them and see how this it works. When they use abbreviations such as lol or others, ask them what it means.

Other Answers:
disguise yourself as someone on line and hurt them
All we can do is tell them as often as we can,and pray that they listen and for GOD to protect them if they don"t.
Let them get hurt. I'm assuming you mean emotionally and not physically. But the best way to learn something is to experiance it yourself.
how old r u?

if your too old you won't understand
One at a time. I use fear. They get angry, but they get scared and it works.

I go in a chat room, get all their personal information, then tell them that they just gave it up to a stranger, and that I will email their guidance counselor and tell them that they are talking to adults in chat rooms in the middle of the night. You should see how quickly some of them change their profiles and take off personal information. I try to nicely explain the dangers and what they need to do to be safe. Some actually still get angry and don't listen. They curse me and tell me to go away, but they are not smart enough to use the ignore feature.
Tell them to watch the news. These pedofiles don't care if anyone is over age or underage. It is all to easy to convince someone of a diferent age than they are. The point is, don't trust anyone who is online, unless you know for sure who they are.

simple.dont let them go online but if they must then make sure that you watch them. theres this program that u can install to let u know which sites have been visited. i have a 12 yr old and i just dont allow him to go online unless its for school and believe me im standing near or over him..
You can't convince them. They already know how dangerous it is. The best thing is to teach them how not to fall prey to on line "criminals". Like not to reveal contact information.
Oh wow opened up a can of worms on this one!

The thing with teenagers (and we've ALL been through it!), is that a lot the time they only learn by experience. It's unfortunate that the "experience" they have might be their last.

I think the single biggest influence we can have on teenagers is as parents. You can't just tell a teenager something and expect them to believe it. You need to start WAY earlier than that. And if you teach your child good morals, good ethics, and what can hurt them, you've got a better CHANCE of saving them. Unfortunately I don't think there will ever be one single, true, all-encompassing answer to the question of "How do you get teenagers to."
talk to them and explain it to them (well, if you have kids that are teenagers anyways) if you dont have kids then its not your problem.
