sunburns and retin-a?!

Question: OK.a sunburn (which burns and peels your skin) is considered "damaging." However: Retin-A, alpha hydroxy acids, glycolics, and chemical peels, which seem to do the same thing, supposedly make your skin look healthier and look BETTER. Why? What's the difference?
Answers:
yeah, i think the main difference is that sunburns dry your skin through uv rays, while retin-a dries your sking b/c of an overload of vitamin A.
once your body reacts and adjusts to the vitamin-a "overdose", however, it is now prepared to react to the acne or whatever it was that got you on retin-a in the first place.
similar to anti-depressants, it's just re-wiring your body and letting it re-learn and adjust for life.

Other Answers:
When you sunburn, it is because of the UV (Ultra Violet) rays. The difference is that the sun's rays are damaging because of the UV rays (ultra violet radiation); which can cause skin cancer.
Chemicals are just that, worse case is that you have an allergic reaction to them.
A more controlled substance. I get gycolic treatments all the time.
