Answers:
I know you don't want to hear this, but get a new doctor. I suffered for years like you are, but that was ages ago. There is no reason any women should have to be that sick every month. It is unacceptable.
There is a fairly new migaine medication called Imitrex. It comes in a nasal spray, pill-form, and injection. I have had to use it twice in the last 2 years, and it works fast. Obviously you need a doctor to check you first, to see if you can take it.

Periods affect women differently. It might be you aren't having enough fluid intake and your body needs the extra fluid around this time? If you're on any birthcontrol, you may want to switch to a different pill, alot of times the different hormones or just different levels of homormones affect women very differently.
It is a normal shift in hormones that is causing your problem, but I wouldn't take hormone pills for this. You should take meds for migranes. Get a doctor that takes you seriously. These migranes are impossing on your life and you need to get on meds that will take them away.

Best to you.
Your body is probably reacting to the fluctuating hormone of estrogen which happens during the week before your period. I would ask your Dr. if he/she would please try a medication call ELAVIL for three months, but no more hormones added to an already out of sync body. This medication is a tricyclic medication and has been very effective in treating migraines in hormonally unbalanced woman. If he/she refuses find another Dr, who is a really good ob/gyn.

Went through this during my premenopausal stage and have counseled other women who have had this problem too.
Migraines are caused by fluctuating hormones. I've suffered from them terribly! I finally found a doctor who gave me this advice.and it's very rare now that I get them! :)

He told me to stay away from the following foods for a week before my period is due..and until my period stops:

Onions, caffeine, chocolate, red wine, cheeses, foods with electrolytes and nitrates (such as gatorade, bacon, ham, processed meats), nuts, dried fruit and yogurt.

Sounds like there is nothing left to eat..but you manage to find things when the alternate is those AWFUL migraines.

I hope this helps you too!
