I believe that the Bird Flu will be the next scare here in the U.S. Remember the West Nile Virus? The virus carried infected mosquitoes from Africa and infected millions. Now only one percent of the people infected needed serious medical attention just here in the United States. And only one percent of that one percent lived. The outcome of the illness was severe brain damage, long and short term memory loss, stroke(s), blindness, speech, and other major normal day use of your body. Their lives were basically destroyed. The government have not been very helpful on getting these people help either.
But, I feel the government is preparing for the pandemic properly. Better be safe than sorry. As for the people out there saying it is all propaganda, I'd like to smack them right here and now.
I.ME.MYSELF was infected with that damn mosquito that nobody believed was ever going to happen and the government was just talking.propaganda.
My life is hell to say the least. I fight everyday to regain my strength, my day to day life living. I have lost so many people near and dear to me because I got sick.
So all of you out there that thinks this is all propaganda, write on here after you become infected with the pandemic so you can tell all of us how you were wrong. Don't ever think it can never happen to you, because it can. Do not be ignorant and listen to warnings. I guess the mistake I made was not using insect repellant. One mistake I will never make again.
Why would our government want to mislead us in such a tragic way? Don't you think the war we are in now is tragic enough?
Quit being fools and listen to all health bulletins when and if the pandemic comes close to the States.

Not sure, but if it is going to be Avian flu, it's got a lot of catching up to do. The government, media and pharma companies want us to be scared of this, but here is a scary fact:
Regular flu kills just over 30,000 people a year world wide (look it up at CDC website).
Avian flu (H5N1, which is the one they are telling us is going to kill everyone) has killed fewer than 200 people since it was discovered.
Be careful who you believe.
Well I don't believe we're aware of a Pandemic that would destroy the entire world population, but from what I've been reading if the Avian flu does spread to more countries and the virus begins to mutate to the Human to Human form of the disease it will be HUGE. Let's all send positive energy and hope that we come up w/ enough of the particular flu shot we would need if and when this ever happens.

The black plague is still consider a dangerous problem. It killed millions many years ago when it went across most of Europe. There was no cure found, but not everyone caught it. Scientists recently said this is one problem they are still studying.
The bird flu and others are considered serious, but not likely as bad as some others that scientist cannot find cures for yet.
The type that is most dangerous are:
Those that spread very quickly and can mutate into other strands quickly making it hard to find a single cure.
Those that spread in several areas at the same time, making it hard to isolate.
Those that there is no known cure yet or has taken on a new mutated strand that scientist do not recognize from the original.
Lack of knowledge or educating the public about how to protect themselves on early stages of the outbreak.
