What is this lumpy knot in my back?!

Question: I pulled something in my back about 6 weeks ago by overstretching. I was only in pain for the next day, but ever since there has been a lumpy knot in my lower back about an inch above my waist and two inches left of the center of my back.

It doesn't hurt, but every once in a while (maybe every other day) I'll feel a tinge of a dull ache in that spot. I'm afraid to lift heavy and run for fear of aggravating the knot more.

What exactly is/causes the knot and will it go away on it's own?
Answers:
My opinion: if it doesn't hurt all the time- try and get a 30 minute basic swedish massage- with attention to that area. Go to an experienced massage therapist though, usually they'll know what it is and if you need further help.
You can look up muscle knots on the internet or read an A&P book for more knowledge what they are and what causes them. They basically happened because like you say you overstretched the muscle and it hasn't ever been able to relax on it's own. Don't be suprised if they wanna do a glut.(butt) massage too- some low back problems start there. I know it's strange but it will feel better.

Go to a doctor
you should go to your doctor and have them check it out, you could have seriously hurt yourself. they may even suggest physical or massage therapy to help theknot go away more quickly.
well i am not certain, but it may be that your muscle may have came back together the wrong way. you should see a doctor just to make sure.
