Why do I feel bad for good and bad things?!

Question: I was at the movies and this guy infront of me tripped on a step and his soda spilled all over the floor. I helped him up and he smiled and said "im fine, just didnt see the step".

Well all day I felt bad for him even though he was ok. All my life I feel bad for things that happen like this. Even seeing a kid carrying a lunch box to school can make me feel bad. The though of the mother or father caring for there child to make them lunch. Its like the though of innocence and others pain bothers me. Is there a word for this? Is this weird?
Answers:
Perhaps somewhere in your life time you have been riddled with guilt by being told over and over that something was your fault when in reality it wasn't but the person doing the guilt dumping was getting out of their own responsibility for their misguided actions by giving it to you.
Some people call it being tender hearted. I agree that you are a very compassionate person. Some one filled with alot of impathy. . . tender hearted.
This too may be the result of something in your life that has made you greatful for those things you do have verses things you do not have.
Don't let society take that away from you. We need to have more impathetic and compassionate people in this world.

Yes there is a word for it and it is empathy. Is it weird, no, it is commendable.
I call what you have, "compassion."

Why would you feel bad when the other person is okay? If all that was in the lunch box was an apple then I might be sad. The guy who triped was fine no blood, or broken bones. When you feel bad like that I guess tell yourself it could be worse.
Maybe you've had a difficult childhood yourself and been through tough stuff and you've developed a compassion that is almost over sensitive. You may have to tone it down a bit so you don't carry false guilt and feel responsible for everything in your world. We can only do so much.
Oh man, there are others like me! Hehe it's funny. my friends and I called this the "little boy syndrome". We'd see an adult guy and we'd say he "looked like a little boy". which meant that we'd think of them getting beat up by someone or taken advantage of and we'd feel bad. Hard to explain. I think it just means they seemed vulnerable to us.

However, my issue with having these feelings is that it is involved with my obsessive-compulsive disorder. My problems with this can really get out of hand. Everything starts giving me that feeling bad feeling. Google the symptoms for OCD and see if you can relate. Hope some of this makes you feel a little better, because I know exactly what you mean.
