blood sugar at 171 wait to see Dr?!

Question:
Answers:
well this all depends on what you ate ..
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends that you keep your blood sugar levels at:

80 mg/dL to 120 mg/dL before meals and 100 mg/dL to 140 mg/dL at bedtime when using a blood sample drawn from a vein (a whole-blood sample).
90 mg/dL to 130 mg/dL before meals and 110 mg/dL to 150 mg/dL at bedtime when using a blood sample drawn from a fingertip (plasma blood sample).

Less than 180 mg/dL one to two hours after meals.

The ADA also recommends a hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) target level of less than 7%. Some people may be able to achieve an even lower level of less than 6%.1 The lower the A1c, the lower the rate of complications. HbA1c is a measure of how well blood sugar levels have remained within a safe range over the previous 2 to 3 months. Keeping blood glucose levels less than 180 mg/dL after meals may help in achieving a hemoglobin A1c of less than 7%.

Yes, that isn't way high, just some. Not dangerous yet. Try doing a little bit of exercise, that should help bring it down some.
its a little high but wait and then check it in the morning because it could have been something you have ate!

well, if your blood sugar is 171 you need to see a dr. normal range is 80-120. should run about 70-80 fasting. (in the a.m. before eating) 171 is much to high and sounds like you could control this with diet and they offer several meds like glucophage or amaryl which are very effective in helping to lower blood sugar. get this under control right away. could cause problems with vision or vascular problems especially with extremities like feet and arms. get this treated right away..good luck and god bless

See Dr. asap. Sugar not super high, but could go up. Get on meds. Are you overweight? Watch your diet. Watch what you drink. No beer, maybe moderate light beer. Better yet scotch on the rocks.

Are you taking your meds? Shooting your insulin like you're supposed to? Did'ja go on a binge and eat that extra donut? Oo, oo, oo! Ya know ya should'na done that? But we all do it now and then! Even medical professionals like me who gots diabetes too - sometimes y'just gotta do it!

Just don't let it become habit. No, 171 is not an emergency, but if you've been being treated for diabetes for awhile, you have already heard about the long-term complications and all. Ya need some extra encouragement and help dealing with this stinkin' disease? There are support groups out there that can be real lifesavers. Ask your endo, your CDE, your public health nurse - one or more of those will know how you can get in touch with such a group. There are also several chat rooms online, but every one I go to is overloaded with kids looking to argue, insult, make nasty sexual remarks and the like. That's true of the AOL chatrooms and others besides. Find a live group, not an online one.
Yes it's high and you should see a Dr. It's your A1C that is important, below 7 is good. mine runs around 7.2 list test.
Two things bring down blood sugar well: exercise and insulin. Taking insulin will make that blood sugar convert to store fat. Therefore, a high reading means get out and move!
What do you mean? Have you already been diagnosed w/ diabetes? Are you 171 from just a random test b/c if so that is actually borderline diabetic. It would actually prompt me as you physician to do a panel on you and at least a hbA1C.
You should definatly make an appointment, but I think you will be fine for a while, at least untill you can see your doctor. normal blood sugar non fasting can range from 50 to 90 and still vary healthy a bit. however, 171 is high, and needs checked out.

Get your plasma glucose level done after 8 hrs. fasting. If it is more than 126mg% on two occasions by definition you are diabetic & you must consult doctor.
It depends--did you take it when you woke up, or two hours after pigging out at a buffet? 171's not bad after the second, but you need to get it checked if it's the first.
I hate to see diabetics flipping out over a single reading that's not even that high. If you have not yet been diagnosed with diabetes, yes, go and see your doctor because you need to be taking something. If you are already diagnosed, then do the things you're supposed to do: eat fewer carbs for your next meal, maybe walk around some, or adjust your insulin, if your doctor let's you do that.

Jeebus. I'm glad I can't reach through my computer screen.

That is dangerous and you need to see your doctor. Don't wait too late cause you could get really sick.
