I have a really important QUESTION! Please HELP!?!

Question: Ok, Here is the deal my son got in to a fight a couple of days ago at school during the fight he opened handed slapped this person.. They sent the person to the nurse the nurse said that there was dry blood in the ear so they called the persons mother & the mother took the person to the DR so far from what I have heard is that there is a rip on the persons ear drum.. The question is... Is it possible that from my son slapping this person it could rip the ear drum.. I do not think that is posible.. So that is why I am putting this out on the table.. So if any of you all have any insight to this question please help. By the way my son got suspended & I beat his *** & I am also working his *** off for getting in trouble.
Answers:
yes..found out first hand when I was slapped on the side of the face/ear. I have had hearing loss in my ear since it occurred which was back in 1991.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if your son threw the first punch you will probably be responsible for the medical bills if the kid does not have insurance.

Other Answers:
he probably just was too mad and the presure caused it to break
The ear drum will tear from a slap resulting from the air pressure created from the slap.
Possible though not likely.. The blood would not dry that fast..There is no long term damage from a ripped ear drum.. The dry blood is the key...
I don't know but my dad claims he once boxed a kids ears open palmed and busted his drums. So it could be possible, but it is also possible that my dad is exaggerating.
well hitting him back isn't gonna help.. if you're son slapped someone, that person probably deserved it
whoa~~you better get you a lawyer! Cause if the parents want to be dirty, they can try to sue you for the dr bills, and any 'suffering damage' they can come up with over this.
I've never heard of an ear drum ripping like that though. Call your lawyer first before you do anything. Make sure your @$$ is covered!
In my personal opinion, and from the two+ years of life-science courses, slapping someone shouldn't cause the ear drum to rupture. It's a good thing you're punishing your son, he shouldn't be slapping around anyone despite the situation. On the other hand though, if he didn't start this thing, the only way to end being bullied is to retaliate so the other person would stop. Again, a slap on the race shouldn't cause the ear drum to rupture. The ear drum is located quite a ways inside the ear. It could've ruptured to excessive yelling & screaming or sticking of an object into the ear. Well, hope this helps.
Enough pressure could probably do that, but it would require a considerable amount. If your son is jr. high, I would say that's a far stretch, but if he's the jock in high school, you never know. I consider it highly unlikely though.
if the blood was dry that would suggest the injury was old not from the fight
I'm not an expert in this field, but I would say it IS possible under unusual circumstances. If the slap completely sealed the ear opening upon impact the pressure wave could damage the eardrum in the way you describe. Some hand to hand fighting techniques may explain this in greater detail. You may want to do a Google search on this while you wait for an expert opinion.
seems like you have a bad son. tell him shame on you!
you need to get ahold of a lawyer & he can bring in a consulting physician to determine this..it does sound far-fetched to me & I was an RN over 17 years, but I'd do what I told you, because it sounds like if they are trying to say this, they may have something legal in mind.I hope not, but best of luck.I hope everything turns out alright.
What I would suggest is to ask your own doctor. It would take a pretty hard blow to the head to cause such thing.
The nurse said that the blood was dry so that perforation in the eardrum was probably caused by something else.

I would suggest buckling down, I have a feeling you are in for a rough and long ride as sue happy as people are.
You beat his %%%%? Did he start the fight or was he defending himself? If he was defending himself, I wouldn't have beat him--what am I saying, I would never beat a child. You need a lawyer.
Yes, a blow to the head can rupture an eardrum. In fact, an open-handed slap right upside the ear is more likely to do it than a closed fist.

Okay, mom, he behaved like a dum bass kid - don't go overboard on the punishment. He does need to be aware that there are consequences for bad behavior, but he also needs to know someone is on his side - even when that someone is Mom whose duty it is to prescribe and enforce the consequences.

Once you're sure he understands the concept of consequences, sit him down, let him know you love him and want him to have a good life, and then explain the concept of taking responsibility for his actions. Remind him that consequences continue throughout life, and violent behavior, engaged in without adequate justification will always bring on trouble.

It's hard, because there is the law of self-defense. If one is attacked unjustly, one has the right to defend onesself. Sometimes one does have to resort to violence, but it's far better, when one is school age, to find the school security officer and report the abuse one has experienced. Help him understand why.
