What glucose reading is high for a diabetic?!

Question: Can it be "normal" to keep your sugar in the 300s? Will that cause long term kidney damage and eventually lead to failure? Any help would be wonderful.
Answers:
Not only will having a constant high sugar level bad for Kidneys, it will also severly increase your chances of going blind, losing circulation in you feet (which can lead to removal of toe and such) not to mention the constant tiredness one must feel. Having high blood sugar, on a short term effect, makes you groggy, tired, irratable, and thirtsy, not to mention the constant trips to pee.
Give yourself short term goals to lower your blood sugar. For instance, this week I will try to get my average level to be around 275 and I will walk 15 minutes a day, and continue this till you feel better

Other Answers:
anything that is above 150 is too high for anyone.

300 will cause you to live shorter, and it will causes you kidneys to fail even more quickly.
300 is very high and will cause problems. You want it around 100. If it is 300 you really need to seea doctor. I cut out all sugar and carbs, and work out to stay off insulin

300 is a bit high. Try to lower it to 200.
call the nurse at the doctor the levels after treatment should be regulated if not the situation is dangerous get the info from the test kit pamplets and tell the doctors office you can be fine and then comatose soo dont play sometimes a balance is hard to find on the meds
NO WAY THAT IS NOT NORMAL! THAT IS DANGEROUS! The normal rage for blood glucose readings in a diabetic should be 120-140, some would say to 160. But if you blood glucose reading is above 200 then I suggest you go and seek medical attention IMMEDIATELY
Prior to a meal, your blood sugar should not be above 120. "In the 300s" is dangerously high!
I think you must contact your doctor on this. 300 is not at all healthy -and will have complications. Only advice I give you is 1. Control your food, 2. excercise 3. Seek medical intervention 4. don't panic - lots of people are diabetic and they have quite normal lives. Most failures are caused by uncontrolled food intake, improper nutrition intake, laps of medication and lack of some physical work.
NO! 300 is three times normal. Kidney failure, blindness, heart problems, amputation, all kinds of things can go wrong with such high levels maintained over time. Get yourself (or whoever is doing this) to a doctor ASAP and get this under control. My cousin found out not too long ago that he was Diabetic, his levels were high 300's, he had a sore that wouldn't heal on his testicles, and they came close to AMPUTATING them. 300 is very serious. Call the doctor. NOW! My Mom, a lifelong juvenile diabetic (Type I), kept poor maintenance of her levels (generally, she was in the mid-100's, but she occasionally spiked to the 300's) the last several years of her life, and died of diabetes related blood pressure problems a few years back & was going blind & was only in her 50's.

This is very serious, for whoever this is. Again, call a doctor!

Diabetes is in my family, lots of experience with relatives
Sorry to say that it is a high reading.Normal glucose level should be under 126.It is important to keep normal blood glucose level coz high glucose in blood(diabetes)can cause serious side effect on ur health esp on eye, kidney, heart and ur nerves. It can also cause diabetes ketoacidosis which is acute medical emergency. In that case, the reading on glucometer can be appear as "HIGH".However you should try to keep ur level under 150.Get advice from diabetes physician.
The blood sugar level is more than 120mg/100ml in diabetic patients.Having blood glucose level in 300s is too high.Diabetes cannot lead to long term kidney damage but it may affect the visual activity. It may lead to diabetic retinopathy and degeneration of small blood vessels.
300 is way to high. because at 240 th keytones set in and thats what will lead to kidney failure. so try to keep it lower then 240 is what my doctors tell me
It is not normal to keep your blood sugar in the 300's. It can lead to renal failure and you should be taking an ACE-Inhibitor to prevent this (drugs ending in -pril). You should keep your blood sugar below 130 before eating and 200 after. Your physician should be monitoring your HbA1C level for your long-term glucose control.
