No appetite?!


Question: I Have been diagnosed with clinical depression, and i really haven't had an appetite for almost a year. I will soon be going to see a dietician to get my weight back on track and i am seeing a psychologist. I am 18 years old and my mother usually makes me lunch and supper but for the past 2 weeks she has been gone away so now i don't eat that much and i find myself feeling very sick from not eating. It started almost immediatley after she left. does anyone have any solutions or ideas? could it be because i am malnourished already and when i skip a meal it is hard on my system or what? and does anyone no how i can get myself to eat when the thought of food makes me feel worse.. please help

I get severe depression & problems with not eating or not being able to keep down due to stress. For me losing weight it is the only thing about having depression.

If you feel that you need to eat though, but do not have the appetite try drinking Ensure or some other protien shake.

Don't worry, recently my friend was diagnosed with Manic depression and this is the advice I gave her, which helped! Choose a spot in your room and make it beautiful and cozy. Pillows, flowers, plants, table fountains. Every morning when you wake up sit in that area for an hour concentrating on the beauty of what surrounds you. Do this before bed as well. After a few weeks, not necessary, but if you wish, join an organization, either sport, volunteer org., drama. knitting club, anything that interests you.
Also, start the morning, only eating fruit, this will open your apetite and keep you healthy. Studies say that fruits and veggies help keep the chemicals in your brain more balanced. Try to cut down on dairy and meat! Some animals carry hormones that increase depression.
A low appetite can sometimes signal a thyroid deficiency. Your primary care doc can test for that. I have kind of low appetite but when I am just a little more active than usual, it makes me hungry in a healthy way (such as taking a walk when I get home from work). Make sure you focus on getting the foods, dishes, meals whatever that you like best, because then you will be kind of primed to eat more! I also have found that if I eat a little something for breakfast around 10am that it gets me hungrier throughout the day -- in a good way. Be well.
had exact same diagnosis and problem they gave me a med called remeron and i gained 50m pounds in 6 months
