what do they do?!

Question: when they do i pap smear i am 26 and i am sceared to go get one and i havent had sex
Answers:
When you get a pap smear the DR takes a sample of your cirvex tissue with a cotton swab. Much like the test for streap throat. It's just not that easy though. It can be uncomfortable, even if you have had children. It is nothing to fear, and is quite a wonderful thing to dectect early problems like cancers. my 19 yr old daughter has had problems with her cycle and has not had sex either. The Dr. put her on the pill and told her not to worry about the pap smear until she was active or 25. My personal thought..If your planning sex in the near future or have a family history of female issues,go to the Dr, if not take your time. Talk to your family Dr. Most Dr's will understand and talk you thru that process. Good Luck

wtf is a pap smear?
they swab the inside of your girl parts to look for cancer..not painful.easy and quick.
Your doctor can do a Pap test during a pelvic exam. It is a simple and quick test. While you lie on an exam table, the doctor puts an instrument called a speculum into your vagina, opening it to see the cervix. She will then use a special stick or brush to take a few cells from inside and around the cervix. The cells are placed on a glass slide and sent to a lab for examination. While usually painless, a Pap test is uncomfortable for some women.

Why do I need a Pap test?
A Pap test can save your life. It can find the earliest signs of cervical cancer - a common cancer in women. If caught early, the chance of curing cervical cancer is very high. Pap tests also can find infections and abnormal cervical cells that can turn into cancer cells. Treatment can prevent most cases of cervical cancer from developing.

Getting regular Pap tests is the best thing you can do to prevent cervical cancer. About 13,000 women in America will find out they have cervical cancer this year. And in 2004, 3,500 women died from cervical cancer in the United States.

Soooooo awkward.
Anyways, they take this tool to hold you open, then they take a q-tip like thing, and swab, then they do tests.

In addition to what everyone else has said, you should have one done-even if you have never had sex. Sex does not have anything to do with the test.
it is a sampling of the cervix tissue, it should be uncomfortable but without pain. unless there is a reason due to genetic or medical history, 26 is a bit young to need it but it can't hurt to have the data.
OK even if you are still a virgin you should still be seeing a gyno regularly. remember when you get there to relax if you are tense you are gonna be working against your self. it is not painful but uncomfortable they are gonna use metal clamp like device that is thin when they insert it but then they open it. then they will inset one or two long q-tips and rub them on your cervix and then you are done. he/she may feel around inside you for a moment but again it isn't painful, just uncomfortable. relax and remember this is for your own good.sing a song in your head and stare at something on the ceiling it'll be over before you know it
