How do you get curls to stay?!

Question: I have medium fine straight hair that doesn't like to curl and perms are too pricy (doesn't look good on me anyway - I end up looking like Goldilocks - only I am a brunette with shades of red hues), and I have tried curlers, my curling iron, gel, volume mousse, shaping mousse, a milky hair lotion, and hairspray, and when I curl my hair, it just doesn't like to stay curled. My curling iron set to high heat and gets warm (not hot) and I leave it in for about 30 seconds to a min, then gently brush the curl down, and it doesn't stay wavy/curled. Any ideas or suggestions?
Answers:
Use hot rollers. They are very easy to put in and takes less time than curling your hair with an iron. Usually the curl isn't staying in because the heat isn't on long enough. The other thing you might be doing is running your hand through your hair while it is still hot from the iron. You have to let it cool before touching it. All you are doing is pulling the curl out if you run your hands through it when it is still hot.

Other Answers:
you can try a professional hair styli est and then ask if can ask if you can get it permanitly.
Just get a roller set from your stylist? They stay in for a while.
i have the same problem and i got it a very light perm. (if u get a heavy one ull look like a poodle!) and it looks really good actually amd then u can just put some gel or mousse and u get that sexy wet look. good luck
My hair is about the same texture as yours and also have curly hair. When my curls start to not stay it sometimes means I need a trim or a haircut.

I have found a really great curl enhancer by Redken it's called 07 Ringlet curl perfector. It doesn't leave your hair crunchy and really all i do is put it in and let me hair air dry and I get the best curls! It's really great! I also have used Garnier Fructis spray gel for curls that works great too. It leave your hair a little crunchy though.

I learned this from my Hollywood Hair Stylists friend Richard Lipinksi. Try setting your hair when it is DAMP (very important) with the old fashion sponge curlers. They sell these at all drug stores now I believe it is sruzzi. Mix you sizes Med. to Small and you want it tight otherwise you won't have the curl that is so Hollywood Glamour in. Sleep in them or let them in at least 7 hours (sorry). Then take out the curlers. Stop don't do anything, now spray with Paul Mitchel's Hair Spray Shaper (this is the best spray for curls staying in and it is not sticky or anything) before you do anything to the hair. This locks in the curl. Then use your fingers, from the scalp out mess up gently, pulling out from the scalp. This gently form your looks. I also use a touch of mouse for shaping so it looks hip not old lady, again using my hands and molding carefully. Where you are going wrong is brushing, that will destroy the curl, NEVER brush always use your hands. In the beginning it might look tight but as soon as you get out and about it fall slightly. I go to the gym and run which makes mine drop. I wear my hair curly like Marilyn Monroe and get gobs of compliments every day. Really it is so easy and lasts 2 to 3 days if you do this. For example on day three, wear a hip new headband for a modern gorgeous curly look. Good luck.
