Because people judge you by your looks first before they get to know you. I mean new people at a new place. Would you strike a convo with a guy covered in pimples and looking like Quasimodo? No.

Very important questions. The society we live in values looks over personal development and goodness and decency.
Advertising and marketing have poisoned people's minds making them believe that thinner or prettier is better. There should be some sort of sanctions against them, the same way they have been imposed on the tobacco companies. Their actions have deeply affected the way people perceive beauty nowadays. Long gone are the days when we considered inner beauty important.
Because society pushes perfect images at us - through a minority of women in magazines (whose photos are adjusted anyway). And we buy it.
That's why my doesn't buy "beauty" magazines anymore.
it was destroyed by the media, marketing, and Hollywood.
