I practically live in the Galleria. People can sometimes be so afraid. But you needn't be. They have great sales just like any other mall. My favorite store is Nordstrom. Right now they are having an online sale. Check it out. If you aren't in the area try a Loehmann's, Marshall's or Ross. Unfortunately, there aren't any Lord & Taylor's here,anymore.but their sales were awesome. I got a pair of $200 pants there for $4, once.
There are also nice resale shops like Baubles and Beads.

I've not lived in Houston for about eight years now, but there was a great little shop at Willowbrook Mall that had some pretty glitzy little numbers if memory serves me. You might also check out some of the boutiques at River Oaks and in the Heights.
Victoria secrets has nice dresses. Great quality too.
