Do cracking your knuckles increase the risk of arthritis?!

Question:
Answers:
My boyfriends mom is a physical therapist to the elderly and has told me that this is a total old wives tail. Basically the popping just removes air from between parts of the knuckles. She did however say it may cause your knuckles to swell over time and become enlarged as you age. But a little popping is actually good and is an almost relieving sensation. So pop away, just not too much!

I have heard this before but have been told it is a myth as well.
No. All it is doing is releasing trapped gas in between the bones. The arthritis thing people like to throw at knuckle-crackers is a myth.
Yes, because the muscles get stuck and your fingers start to fall down. Don't do that. I myself have that habit.
Hiiii! It's me! Um, i think it's gross! Like buddy does it all the time to his back, uhhhhh...and it's so loud, you can hear it across the room! but i would say no that it doesn't increase chances.
cracking your knuckles is neither harmless nor desirable. The arthritis connection may be an old wives' tale, but cracking your knuckles can hurt your hand in other ways, and there's no benefit to it. Some students crack their knuckles after writing a great deal, but cracking knuckles isn't a solution for writer's cramp. Instead, take a break, and bend and stretch out your fingers a few times.
Yes
I had asked this of my doctor a while back, here is what he told me. It is not good to do that, what it does is it slowly breaks off small pieces of the cartilage that cushions the joints in your fingers. That is what makes the popping sound. There is not gas in the knuckles. Since you are damaging the cartilage you do increase the risk of arthritis, since arthritis is cause by damage to the joints by some unnatural action (accidents, hyperextention etc). That is why if you ask a person with big knuckles if they used to crack them about 80% will say yes then they will tell you about their arthritis they have. So If you do it stop, you are young enough that it will repair (however very slowly). My sister did all the time now she has arthritis.
Over time, it will make your knuckles bigger and on a female, that would add to the pain if arthritis is a result as well.
yes
uhhhhhhhhhhh ya shure
