I struggled with this. I got advice from a few friends.cut it real short (don't shave it, but cut it short). I finally did, I was hesitant at first, but it really works for me. I get compliments from time to time that my hair is great this way (and not just from my mother :) ).
Put some peanut butter in your hair. It also shines and smooths your hair. (Remember to wash it out!)
