i haven't been able to keep nail polish on my nails lately.?!

Question: it chips off easily.

any idea why?
suggestions?
thnx;)
Answers:
Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before applying the nail polish. If there are any residual lotions, soaps or oils on your fingernails the polish will chip off easily. Most dish detergents are good "degreasers" for the fingernails. Use a little to wash your nails before painting them. I guarantee your polish will hold up for weeks.

i do know that eating jello makes your nails grow stronger and faster and probably thicker.try a different type of nail polish.it might be watered down or something like that?
pUT A GOOD TOP COAT ON THEM
visit www,rawlunch.co.uk for advice, the are specialist on that part.
Its the oil that your nails produce.alcohol will remove the oils but only for a short time
Even if your nails are polish-free at the start, make nail-polish remover your first step in order to remove grease and dirt.
File nails and push back cuticles before painting. "This will help polish adhere to the nail," says Kline, "resulting in a longer-lasting polish."
Get a nail block to buff and shine nails. "If you have ridges, the polish won't go on as well," Kline explains.
No matter how much of a hurry you may be in, never skip the base coat. Not only does it act as a foundation for your manicure, but, according to Kline, "it protects against those yellow stains that often get on nails."
Use a good, no-chip top coat. For natural nails (those that do not have extensions or tips), it can be reapplied daily as extra protection.
try "out the door." it's this really cool stuff you put on your nails that helps harden and protect them, so u won't have that annoying "chipped-off" look. you also may be putting your nail polish on too thin or too thick. 2 to 3 coats should do it. it just depends on the consistency of the polish.
Good question, I have that problem too. Try a light color. Like a light pink. It's not very noticible, but then you don't see any little chips, and at least they look shiny like they've been polished.
Try coating it with a clear based top layer coat. Try and inexpensive brand like sally Henson (or however you spell it)
I had the same problem before I found this product that helped me to grow long and strong nails and help nail polish stay on for weeks. It's Orly Nail Defense. You apply it before nail polish to protect your nails and help to straighten them and then on top of your nail polish to protect it from piling/chipping. You can find it at any salon. I know that Ulta salon carries this product. But like I said any salon should have it. Work great! You won't regret.
My favorite is from Sally's Beauty Supply Store. It is a clear Hardener called Beauty Secrets. It has certainly increased the time line from 2 days to a week without chipping.
Chipping Polish

Chipping polish has been a problem since the beginning of polish wear.
Nails are flexible and when they bend, the inflexible paint on then cracks and peels away.

It is very similar to the paint on a house. As the house is exposed to the elements and the wood or shingles expand and contract with the moisture in the air.. The paint on the house cracks and peels.

Hands and nails are in water several times a day. Your natural nail is porous and becomes swollen and soft when allowed to remain in contact with water. This allows the polish to "let go" of the nail. That is why housewives and swimmers have the toughest time with polish wear-ability.

Here are some tips to increase your polish wear-ability.

Make sure your nail is clean and dry. No oil or lotion residue is on the nail. This inhibits polish adhesion
Next use a nail prep (OPI Bond-aid is an example of a prep) that will prepare the nail plate for polish adhesion. Available at salons.
One thin coat of a base coat made for natural nails. Dry
Two to three coats of polish thinly applied. (thick polish peels quicker). Please allow a few minutes for each coat to dry.
Once you are happy with the uniform color or the polish application. Apply a GOOD quality Top Coat, on the surface of the nail and under the free edge of your nail if you have any length.
Applying top coat under the free edge.. in effect.. waterproofs your nail and helps prevent it from soaking up water or other chemicals.
Top coat should be applied every other day. to replace the top coat that is being worn off due to daily life. Make sure the surface of the nail is clean and dry before re-applying the top coat. Top coat can be reapplied to the underside of the nail every 3-4 days. This will keep your manicure looking fresh every day.
At the end of 7-10 days you should remove all your polish and start over from the beginning.
Sometimes at the end of the 10 days your polish will want to peel off in one sheet. Try to avoid peeling your polish off (even if it is fun) because it removes small pieces of your nail surface causing damage to your nail.
Regular manicures (every 4-6 weeks) can help you maintain your nails and they are a great way to pamper yourself.
