a decongestant such as sudofed. or put your head over a sink of steaming water added with some menthol crystals/olbas oil.
cough it out and drink warm water..avoid MSG and avoid icy stuff.
I suffer from the same probelem, the best way too clear your throat, is one dont eat any chocolate, if you can help it, also squirt lemmon juice down your throat, it is like magic.

Get some vicks vapor rub and rub it under your nose and on your neck. Then go stand in the shower. The vapor works within minutes. (but dont spit it out in the shower, GROSS!)
